Brewers sign Gallardo to five-year deal

Yovani GallardoThe Milwaukee Brewers signed RHP Yovani Gallardo to a five-year contract with an option for 2015. 

The new deal will pay Gallardo $30.1-million and has an option for a 6th year that could increase the package to $42.5-million.

The 24 year old Gallardo was selected by the Brewers in the second rounf of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft.  He owns a career record of 22-18 with a 3.58 ERA in 55 games (52 starts) since making his Major League debut in 2007.  He went 13-12 with a 3.73 ERA in 30 starts last season, which marked his first full season in the Major Leagues. Cost to drive goes up 5 percent

Wonder what it costs to drive these days?

Triple-A releases the 2010 edition of its annual study called, ‘Your Driving Cost.’ It shows motorists are paying a little more than last year to own and operate a car.

“Almost 5 percent higher than last year. Take an average sedan that travels 15,000 miles per year and the cost of owning that car is now almost up to $8,500 per year.”

Badgers advance to Frozen Four final

John MitchellThe Wisconsin Badger men’s hockey team is one win away from their 7th NCAA Frozen Four Championship after yesterday’s convincing 8-1 win over Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Badgers will meet Boston College in Saturday night’s (6pm /ESPN) championship game.  Boston College rolled to a 7-1 win over Miami of Ohio in the other semi-final.

Junior defenseman Brendan Smith tallied five assists and sophomore Derek Stepan had 2 goals and 2 assists to lead the Badgers (28-10-4) in the win. [Read more...]

Republican plot or plan for better oversight?

The Rock County Board voted Thursday night to table a decision to switch to a medical examiner system. Those in favor of the coroner system say the county would strip voters of their rights. Those who want a medical examiner say the coroner’s office has a history of problems such as drug abuse and the county board doesn’t have enough oversight.

Last Stop Arson Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

The 46-year-old Fond du Lac man suspected of setting fire to his business has been bound over for trial. Lyle Huss waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday and entered not guilty pleas to arson charges for the March 3rd fire that destroyed Last Stop Bar and Lanes.
