Federal dollars to find the wrongfully convicted

A group of Wisconsin lawyers have received federal dollars in their fight for those who are wrongfully convicted. The Wisconsin Innocence Project takes cases by request and co-director Keith Findley says this grant money will proactively find instances in which DNA evidence can exonerate convictions.

Bitter bill would protect pets

A legislative proposal could make antifreeze less appealing to pets. Alyson Bodai is the Wisconsin state director for the Humane Society of the United States, and explains the reason for adding a bittering agent to antifreeze. “A bittering agent would be a chemical that’s added that is a deterrent for them to ingest the product,” says Bodai. “That could prevent thousands of pet deaths every year.” [Read more...]

Touting the importance of early education

The Celebrate Children Foundation tours the state of Wisconsin in order to focus awareness on the need to invest in birth-to-five education.

“Our foundation is focused on obtaining resources and investing them in birth to five programs throughout the state.”

Jim Leonhart, Executive Vice President, says four-year-old kindergarten — and younger — is a critical part of the early learning process and it needs continued financial support. Rough start for Brewers top draft pick

Eric ArnettWisconsin Timber Rattlers right hander Eric Arnett (pictured) would like to have his 2010 debut back.  Arnett struggled early, allowing 4-runs in the first inning in Wisconsin’s 7-4 Midwest League loss to the Clinton Lumber Kings.

Arnett is the top pick of the Brewers from the 2009 draft and one of the clubs top minor league prospects.  He allowed 5- runs in all, 4 of which were earned, on 6-hits.   Arnett left after 4 1/3 innings due to a pre-determined pitch count. 

The Timber Rattlers are encouraged with the way Arnett bounced back and performed after the first inning.

Cubs win home opener, club Brewers at Wrigley

Doug DavisTwo starts for lefty Doug Davis (pictured) has led to back to back bad outings for the Milwaukee Brewers pitcher.  Davis worked just 3 1/3 innings and allowed 6 runs on 7 hits and the Brewers fell to the Cubs 9-5 at Wrigley Field. 

In 7.1 innings of work, Davis has allowed 10 runs on 13 hits and his ERA has ballooned to 12.27. [Read more...]
