Elections bill could lead to fraud

Republicans say pending legislation could make it easier to commit election fraud in Wisconsin.

The proposed bill would automatically register Wisconsinites to vote when they register with a state agency, such as the DMV. It would also simplify the process of requesting an absentee ballot, and allows voters to permanently receive one. [Read more...]

Celebrate Children Day in Wisconsin

The designation is to highlight the importance of caring appropriately for young children. The Celebrate Children Foundation is having a 24-hour fund-raising campaign today to support early learning.

“It’s the first time we’ve tried this, and we hope it will be an opportunity for an annual event to raise some of this money … we’re suggesting we want to be a part of the solution strategy. It’s not all government. We’re looking for private support as well to build this bucket of grant money that can be available to this industry.” [Read more...]

Amendment would restrict gov’s veto

Another effort to restrict the governor’s veto power. The legislature has acted in the past to rein in the veto powers of Wisconsin governors, but state Senate President Fred Risser says legislators need to assert themselves again. The Madison Democrat is author of a proposed constitutional amendment (SJR 61) to prohibit governors from vetoing part of a bill section without rejecting the entire section. [Read more...]

Racine County to let voters decide on transit tax

Racine County has given the go ahead to a November advisory referendum on a potential additional tax for mass transit. The tax is part of legislation at the capitol that would help fund any number of projects including high speed rail, KRM or buses. County Supervisor Rusty Clark said it’s time to play offense instead of defense for a change.

UW-Green Bay to wrap up coaching interviews today

Green Bay assistant coach Brian Wardle and St. Norbert College head coach Gary Grzesk (pictured) will be the last of five candidates to discuss the open coaching position with Green Bay athletic director Ken Bothof today.  Green Bay’s coaching position opened up when Tod Kowalczyk left after eight seasons to take the head job at Toledo.
