Admirals sign Geoffrion to Amateur try-out contract

Blake GeoffrionThe Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League announced today that the team has signed 2010 Hobey Baker Award winner Blake Geoffrion to an Amateur Try-Out Contract.  The former University of Wisconsin star will look to make his Admirals debut tonight when the team travels to Chicago for game two of the West Division semifinals at 7:30pm at All-State Arena in Chicago.

Geoffrion finished third in the nation in goals (28) and finished first in Division 1 hockey in power-play tallies (15).  He helped lead the Badgers to the Frozen Four Championship game last week against Boston College.

Doyle says state will lead on high speed rail

With amenities such as “bistro cars” and WI-FI access, Governor Jim Doyle says Wisconsin is going to be able to demonstrate a new kind of passenger rail service to the rest of the country, and to do it first. “We are going to move beyond all of the preliminary engineering and the design. In the next two years we are actually going to have modern trains riding over tracks, providing service to people in this state,” Doyle said during a meeting with federal railroad officials in Milwaukee on Thursday. Kenosha’s K-DOG finds marijuana grow

Sometimes parents should listen to the children.

Kenosha’s K-DOG unit, armed with a search warrant, searched the home of 46 year old Frank Ruffalo and found an active marijuana grow. Officers found two grow rooms in the basement, seven marijuana plants and numerous items of drug paraphernalia.

Ruffalo’s 9 year old daughter was also home at the time. [Read more...]

It was more than just a meteor in the sky Wednesday night. That today from Professor John Valley of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Geoscience Department, who confirms meteorites have been found. “Samples have been located in southwestern Wisconsin,” says Valley. “We’ve been studying a sample that was brought in by a landowner west of Madison.” [Read more...]

State basketball tournament proposal starts off slow

The WIAA‘s proposal for expanding its state basketball tournament to five divisions failed to clear its first hurdle on Thursday.

The Basketball Coaches Advisory Committee defeated the motion to approve and advance the plan by a 5-3 vote. 

The group is one of three committee’s that weigh in on the plan before the Board of Control makes a final decision on the matter.
