Packers get the left tackle of the future

Bryan Bulaga Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked 56-times last season.  When Packers general manager Ted Thompson saw Iowa left tackle Bryan Bulaga still on the board at #23, he didn’t take too long to get the pick in.

Bulaga allowed just two sacks all of last season at the University Iowa.  Both coming against Michigan DE Brandon Grahm.  Bulaga was coming off of a thyroid problem that had him frustrated for awhile, but eventually he got into the groove and had a fine season.  Thompson said lineman from Iowa are good football players.

Packers select Iowa’s Brian Bulaga in 1st round

Bryan Bulaga The Green Bay Packers may have the Chad Clifton’s eventual successor at left tackle, selectingoffensive tackle Bryan Bulaga out of the University of Iowa. 

Bulaga is listed at 6’5, 312 pounds, considered one of the more athletic big men in the 2010 NFL Draft. 

Bulaga can play a number of different positions on the offensive line and that’s something the Packers like, being able to move players around if need be. 

Bulaga earned Walter Camp All-American first-team honors, adding second-team accolades from the Associated Press.  He was a All-Big Ten Conference first-team choice and became the sixth Hawkeye to be named Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year by the league’s coaches.

Round 1 nearing midway point

The Tennessee Titans are on the clock with the 16th pick in draft and the Green Bay Packers may be looking to move up right here.  Iowa tackle Brian Bulaga is still available at this point.  Let’s see if Ted Thompson pulls the trigger.

2010 Draft is underway

The 2010 NFL Draft is underway.  The Green Bay Packers media auditorium is about half full at the moment.  That will change later when the Packers get closer to the 23rd pick in tonight’s opening round.

The draft is four picks old at the moment.  Three of the first four picks are all from Oklahoma.  QB Sam Bradford, as expected, went first overall to Oklahoma.  After Detroit took Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh second overall, then Tampa Bay selected Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy and Washington followed that up with Oklahoma OT Trent Williams.

The fifth player just fell off the board.  Kansas City selected Tennessee safety Eric Berry.

Packers still a couple of hours away, barring a trade upward.
