Pirates suffer their worst loss ever

The Milwaukee Brewers banged out 25 hits and clubbed four home runs, handing the Pittsburgh Pirates a 20-0 loss, the worst setback in their 124-year history.

The Brewers set a record for the largest margin of victory in a shutout in winning their 4th straight.  They outscored the Pirates 36-1 in the series.

Jim Edmonds went 4 for 6 with a home run and 2 doubles.  Prince Fielder ended his home run drought, clubbed his first of the season.  The Brewers hit four home runs in all.

Randy Wolf set the tone on the mound and picked up the win, to improve to 8-1 lifetime against the Pirates.  But he had all the offense he would need.  The Brewers had 46 hits in the 3-game series and went 10 for 19 with runners in scoring position today.

The Brewers also improved to 5-0 in series finale’s this season and improve to 8-7 overall on the season.  They return home after their 9-game road trip to host the Chicago Cubs tomorrow night at Miller Park.

State Senate adjourns

The Wisconsin State Senate has adjourned for the session, and the move likely means the end of the road for a number of controversial bills at the Capitol.

The Senate wrapped up their action for the year before the Assembly could take action on the Clean Energy Jobs Act, Regional Transit Authority legislation, and a number of other bills that were scheduled for votes later today. That means, even if those bills receive approval in the Assembly, the Senate will be unable to take them up. [Read more...]

Brewers extend win streak to 3

The Milwaukee Brewers ran their win streak to 3-games, rolling to an 8-0 shutout win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night. 

The Brewers improved to 7-7 as Yovani Gallardo tossed 5 shutout innings, striking out 10.  Nine of the first 11 Pittsburgh batters retired by Gallardo, came via the strikeout.  Gallardo said luckily he was able to overcome a high pitch count to win.

Ryan Braun, Rickie Weeks and pinch-hitter Jody Gerut all homered for the Brewers.  Milwaukee goes for the sweep today, wrapping up a 3-city, 9-game road trip.
