Raw milk sales approved

Despite concerns from many lawmakers, the Assembly has approved a bill allowing dairy farmers to sell raw milk. The bill allows the sale of unpasteurized milk on dairy farms with a permit from the state Ag Department.

State Representative Marlin Schneider (D-Wisconsin Rapids) is among many lawmakers worried that raw milk sales could lead to a disease outbreak that would damage Wisconsin’s reputation as the dairy state. Assembly wraps up work for the year

The State Assembly adjourned the spring Legislative session in the early hours of Friday morning.  Lawmakers took final action on a number of bills, including legislation regulating the payday loan industry, a bill giving the state Superintendent of Public Instruction more power to intervene in troubled schools, and a measure allowing the sale of raw milk by dairy farmers. Payday Lending bill heads to Governor

A bill regulating payday and auto title loans wins approval in the state Legislature.

The legislation received a final vote Thursday night in the state Assembly. It creates income limits on the size of loans and allows only one rollover for borrowers. The measure also limits auto title loans to 50-percent of a vehicle’s value. [Read more...]

Assembly approves new Superintendent powers

Legislation allowing the state Superintendent to intervene in failing school districts heads to the Governor. The bill given final approval in the Assembly Thursday night would allow the Superintendent to step in and help fix troubled public schools. [Read more...]
