Day of Prayer debate

What happens in Wisconsin, on the National Day of Prayer? That depends on who you’re talking to. According to Annie Laurie Gaylor with the Madison-based Freedom from Religion Foundation, organizers can expect state recognition, despite a recent ruling against the national event by federal judge Barbara Crabb, in a lawsuit filed by Gaylor’s group. “They’re (event organizers) getting Governor Doyle to issue their proclamation word-for-word, that is all about publicizing a federal statute calling that date the National Day of Prayer,” Gaylor said during an interview. “This is what you’d expect in a in a theocracy.” [Read more...]

Packers sign Peprah, release Frischknecht

Charlie PeprahThe Green Bay Packers have signed safety Charlie Peprah and released TE Devin Frishknecht. 

Peprah, a fifth-year player, spent three previous seasons (2006-08) in Green Bay and appeared in 37 games for the Packers.  he appeared in two games for Atlanta in 2009.

Frischknecht spent the 2009 season on injured reserve after signing with the Packers as a non-drafted free agent last summer.

Thompson looking to retire after Packers release

Outside linebacker Jeremy Thompson has been released by the Green Bay Packers.  Thompson is headed for retirement from football after sustaining a neck injury late last season.

Thompson was a 4th round pick of the Packers in 2008.  He was hospitalized after injuring his neck in a collision during a practice in December.  Thompson was unable to play for the remainder of the season.

Without Thompson, Brad Jones and Brady Poppinga are expected to compete for the starters job at outside linebacker, opposite Clay Matthews.

Suspect shot trying to drive away in squad car

Police in Oak Creek have fatally shot a suspect who was found in the driver’s seat of a squad car. Police Chief Tom Bauer says the suspect was believed to have burglarized a home, and then was checking other homes in the same vicinity when a citizen reported the activity, leading to the suspect’s car being chased and crashing into a business in nearby Caledonia.

Brewers continue their mastery of the Pirates

After the Milwaukee Brewers were swept over the weekend by the Chicago Cubs, they were glad to see the the Pittsburgh Pirates back in town. 

The Brewers turned a lopsided game in the 8th into a major league blowout by scoring 9-runs in the inning, on the way to a 17-3 win at Miller Park.

After outscoring the Pirates 36-1 in a 3-game sweep last week, the Brewers have now outscored Pittsburgh 53-4 over the last four meetings between the two teams.  [Read more...]
