Pavelski’s post-season has Sharks pointed in right direction

Joe PavelskiThe San Jose Sharks took a 2-0 series lead in round 2 over the Detroit Red Wings.  The Sharks won yesterday’s NHL playoff second round game 4-3. 

Plover, Wisconsin native and former BadgerJoe Pavelski scored two goals and added an assist to push his NHL-high playoff goal total to nine.  Pavelski is also the first player since Mario Lemieux to score two goals in three straight playoff games.

Joe Thornton won it for the Sharks by picking up a rebound in the crease and poking it in for the game winner.

The series now shifts back to Detroit for games 3 and 4.

Former Bucks coach battling for his life

George Karl had hoped to return to coaching in the NBA playoffs with his Denver Nuggets, but his treatment for throat and neck cancer has made that impossible. 

Karl’s treatment has caused him to lose 25 pounds.  His strength and stamina went right along with the weight loss.  His mouth is full of sores and his neck is red and tender from the radiation.  But now another problem has developed. [Read more...]

Bucks missed an opportunity

The Milwaukee Bucks fell behind early and had nothing left in the tank yesterday, losing game 7  of their opening round playoff series in Atlanta
95-74.

It’s hard to believe it all ended the way it did.  With the Bucks up 3-games to 2 with game 6 in Milwaukee on Friday, the Bucks not only failed to ice the series at home, they then followed through with a disappointing loss in game 7 on Sunday.

The Bucks shot it about as poorly as they have all season, hitting just 32% from the field and 21% from beyond the 3-point line.  They were also out-rebounded by 20. [Read more...]

Brewer bats remain silent

For the third time in the last four games, the San Diego Padres pitching staff blanked the Milwaukee Brewers, pulling out a 8-0 win in San Diego on Sunday.  Jon Garland and two Padre relievers combined on a 3-hitter.

It was the first time the Padres had three shutouts in a series of any length in their 42-year history.

Scott Hairston and Kyle Blanks hit back to back homers in the fifth inning for the Padres, who continue to lead the NL West.  The Padres out-scored the Brewers 21-2 in the series.

Randy Wolf took the loss for the Brewers.  He worked 5 innings, allowed 4-runs on 6-hits with 6 walks and 5 strikeouts.

The Brewers are off today.  They’ll open a series tomorrow night (Tuesday) against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
