Phoenix signs first ever 7-footer

New UW-Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball coach Brian Wardle announced the signing of the school’s first ever 7-footer in his first recruiting class.

High school senior Alec Brown from Winona, Minnesota, picked Green Bay over fellow Horizon League school Loyola.  Brown was also drawing interest from Northwestern, Colorado and Washington State. 

Brown averaged 22 points, 10 rebounds and nearly 5 blocked shots a game.

Clean sweep for drugs

The state Ag Department aims to keep us safe from unwanted drugs.

Expired prescription drugs are schedule to be collected, secured, and incinerated at various collection sites throughout the state. Dennis Presser, Clean Sweep program manager, says dumping your old, unused medications down the toilet is not acceptable.

“Flushing medication down the toilet is not a good idea. What is happening, is it’s turning up in our ground water and in our surface water, as well.” [Read more...]

Packers 2010 Tailgate Tour gets underway today

Mark Murphy The Green Bay Packers Tailgate Tour makes the first of four stops today in Rhinelander.  Team President/CEO Mark Murphy, along with Pro Bowl offensive tackle Chad Clifton, Pro Bowl safety Nick Collins, wide receiver James Jones and fullback John Kuhn are all taking part.

Following the Rhinelander visit today, the group will make stops in Chippewa Falls tomorrow, Reedsburg on Thursday and Milwaukee on Friday.

Proceeds from the events go to local charities.

Gov. Doyle signs jobs package

By expanding some programs that provide tax credits to businesses, Governor Doyle hopes to boost the economy. While in Green Bay signing eight bills into law, Doyle said the CORE Jobs Act would create and expand programs that offer tax credits, grants and loans. [Read more...]

Lassa to run for Obey’s seat

Wisconsin Democratic leaders are reportedly pinning their hopes on state Senator Julie Lassa of Stevens Point to replace congressional icon David Obey. Lassa announced her bid Monday for the north central Wisconsin district. That was after party leaders spent last weekend figuring out the best way to keep the seat after Obey’s surprise decision that he’ll step down.
