Gamblers capture 2010 Clark Cup

The Green Bay Gamblers captured the 2010 USHL Clark Cup Championship, finishing off their best of 5 series against Fargo with a 5-3 win on Wednesday night.  The Gamblers trailed in the series 2-games to none at one point, but reeled off three-straight wins.  Forward Anders Lee.

The geese at a popular park in Madison are breathing a sigh of relief. After nearly two hours of testimony last night, the city’s Parks Commission voted not to euthanize the birds. Commission members voted to form a study group to look at alternatives to eliminate the problem.

Brewers swept by Braves at home

The Atlanta Braves pulled out a 3-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on Wednesday.  The Braves broke open a close game in the 7th and cruised to a 9-2 win over the Brewers.

Brooks Conrad homered, doubled and drove in four runs for the Braves, who came into the series with the worst road record in the National League.  The Brewers own the majors worst home record, falling to 4-11.  Casey McGehee said getting swept only adds to their home woes.

After the Brewers had tied the game at 2 in the 6th, Manny Parra quickly gave it right back in the 7th.  Manager Ken Macha said he’s trying to rest the pen because they’re fried.

The Brewers are off today.  They’ll host the Phillies starting Friday night.

O’Driscoll resigns for health reasons

After 35 years as Arrowhead’s varsity baseball coach, Tim O’Driscoll is resigning for health reasons.  The 62 year old coaching legend has compiled a 742-328 record, capturing 14 conference championships.  Arrowhead made six trips to the WIAA state tournament, winning two state titles.

O’Driscoll took over the varsity program at Arrowhead in 1975.

Wisconsin and Marquette among NCAA attendance leaders

The NCAA released figures on attendance in men’s basketball from last season.  Both Wisconsin and Marquette are among the nation’s leaders.

Wisconsin averaged 17,230 fans a game last season, good for 6th in the country.  Marquette finished 10th, drawing an average 15,617 fans a game.

Kentucky was the nation’s biggest draw, averaging 24,111 per game.  The Big Ten led the nation for the 34th straight season.

In division 3, UW-Stevens Point ranked 3rd in the country and Carthage College is 5th nationally.
