Midwest Conference baseball tournament opens today

The Midwest Conference baseball championships kick off today at host Grinnell Colledge.  Here’s the match-ups!

9am  Illinois College vs. St. Norbert College
9am  Ripon College vs. Grinnell College

12:30  Winner of game 1 vs. winner of game 2
 3:30   Losers of game 1 vs. Loser of game 2

Action continues on Saturday.

Law aims to ground skyrocketing STD cases

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is praising Governor Doyle’s signing of legislation that aims to curb the “skyrocketing” STD problem in Wisconsin, according to the groups’ Public Policy Director Chris Taylor. Doyle signed a bill this week that allow physicians to prescribe antibiotics to treat common STD’s not only to a patient, but their partner as well.

Brewers announce game time change

The Milwaukee Brewers game on Sunday, June 6 at St. Louis has been changed to a 7pm first pitch to accommodate a national telecast by ESPN.

The original start time was 1:15pm.

Strange night on the Interstate

“Very strange.” That’s how a law enforcement official describes an overnight incident with a semi-truck driver on the Interstate near Sparta. Monroe County Sheriff Dennis Pedersen said the driver for a Canadian trucking firm had picked up a load of energy drinks in Minnesota – then for some reason headed east into Wisconsin rather than north back to Canada. “We don’t know what caused him to drive as erratically as he was driving, and to refuse the directives of the officers,” said Pedersen. Pedersen said the driver did have to be subdued after leading officers on a 23 mile chase and then refusing to exit his cab for nearly an hour.  He exhibited signs of being very fatigued, but Pedersen said it’s not known what other issues might have been in play. White supremacist fliers found at high school

For the second time in recent months someone left white supremacist fliers on cars at the Horace Mann High School in North Fond du Lac. Police Captain Darren Pautsch says while leaving the fliers on the cars isn’t illegal, the sentiment expressed in the fliers promotes violence; something authorities are concerned about. “Anyone who wants to disseminate propaganda that promotes violence, especially in and around a school, is someone that we want to know who they are, and what it is they’re up to,” Pautsch says.
