While a coalition of agriculture groups urged Governor Jim Doyle to veto legislation which would have allowed for the on-farm sales of raw milk in Wisconsin, at least one farm group sees a lost opportunity in Doyle’s veto of the bill. Kara Slaughter with Wisconsin Farmers Union says it’s a lost opportunity for a segment of dairy farmers and consumers. “Even though over half of states in the U.S. have some form of raw milk sales, raw milk only accounts for one to three percent of all milk sales in the U.S.” said Slaughter. “This was always going to be a small percentage of milk sales. Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin told WTMJ Radio in Milwaukee on his weekly radio show that he supports manager Ken Macha, whose team has lost 9-straight games. Melvin said he saw no reason to dismiss Macha despite the team’s struggles.
The Brewers blew a 4-3 7th inning lead and fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 last night. The last time the Brewers were in Pittsburgh, they swept a 3-game series, outscoring the Pirates 36-1. Now they’re 10-games under .500 and 3-games behind the Pirates in the standings. [Read more...]
Kagen wants BP to pay more for spill (AUDIO)
Is BP paying enough to clean up the Gulf? Wisconsin Congressman Steve Kagen suggests BP and its drilling contractor pony up, to pay for the unfolding disaster in the Gulf. The Appleton Democrat suggests a figure of $25 billion be set aside for potential catastrophic losses – and that didn’t go over well during a hearing before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Wednesday. “They weren’t interested,” said Kagen of the reaction by the heads of BP and Transocean.
