Tracking trafficking in persons

An anti-abuse advocate says Wisconsin needs to keep better tabs on human trafficking. Marianna Smirnova with the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault (WCASA). She says the most recent data collection research was done in 2007 when the legislature was considering a Victims Protection Act, which was later signed into law.

Badger women to host Duke in Challenge

The Wisconsin women’s basketball team will host Duke in the 2010 ACC/Big Ten Conference Challenge.  The game will be played Thursday, Dec. 2, with the tip-off time and TV information coming to be announced later.

The lone meeting between UW and Duke took place in Durham, North Carolina in 1987.  Duke defeated the Badgers 86-66 on that day. [Read more...]

Ways for pets to beat the heat

These soaring temperatures serve as a reminder to keep your pets cool. Jim Hurley with the Rock County Humane Society says water and shade are the two best ways to beat the heat. He says a dog house is not protection enough in sweltering temperatures.

NY Super Bowl? Brrrrr

NFL owners meetings start in the Dallas area today and the awarding of the 2014 Super Bowl is on the agenda.  Miami and Tampa, both with plenty of Super Bowl experience, are up for consideration.  But believe it or not, the co-sponsored bid between the New York Jets and New York Giants at the new $1.6-billion Meadowlands appears to be the favorite.

That means potential snow storms or bitter cold temperatures could come into play not only for the game itself, but for the entire Super Bowl week.

The NFL has some sort of rule that wants the average temperature in the city hosting the Super Bowl to be in the ball park of 54-degrees or higher.  But they’ve waived that rule, which would appear to open the door for New York. [Read more...]

With the endorsement of the Republican Party in hand, gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker hit the campaign trail again on Monday.

In stops across Wisconsin, the Milwaukee County Executive said he’s ready to take back state government and put it back on the side of the people, in order create more jobs. [Read more...]
