Waunakee’s Maly commits to the Badgers

Waunakee High School’s 6’6, 220lb tight end Austin Maly has given Wisconsin an oral commitment for its 2011 freshman class. 

Maly caught 24 passes for 527 yards and three touchdowns as a junior last season and helped Waunakee win the WIAA Division 2 Championship by beating Kimberly.

Maly is the third known oral commitment for 2011.  He joins Baldwin-Woodville linebacker Jake Keefer and Merrill tight end Sam Arneson.

Wolf leads Brewers to win over Astros

A Milwaukee Brewers starter finally went 7-innings in a game.  Randy Wolf pitched 7-scoreless innings to lead the Brewers to a 6-1 win over the Houston Astros at Miller Park.  The win ended a 8-game home field losing streak for the Brewers. 

Milwaukee had gone 20 straight games without a starting pitcher going 7-innings.  The last Brewers starter to pitch 7-innings was Yovani Gallardo on May 1 in a 2-1 win over the San Diego Padres.  Manager Ken Macha said that’s the first of a few things that ended up going quite well.

The Astros came to town with the league’s worst batting average of .227. 

The Brewers got home runs from Ryan Braun and Rickie Weeks. 

Chris Narveson pitches game 2 of the series tonight.  He’s 4-1.  Roy Oswalt goes for the Astros.  Oswalt is 2-6 with a 2.66 ERA for the Astros.

Brewers among all-star vote leaders

Ryan Braun ranks as the leading vote-getter among outfielders and all Brewers on the ballot are faring well in early voting results of the 2010 all-star team.  The first round of voting results was announced by Major League Baseball on Tuesday.

Braun, who it hitting .324 with 7 home runs and 30 rbi’s ranks third overall in National League voting, trailing only second baseman Chase Utley of the Phillies and first baseman Albert Pujols of the Cardinals.

Rickie Weeks currently stands second among National League second basemen, trailing only Utley.  Alcides Escobar, Prince Fielder and Casey McGehee each rank third at their respective positions.

This years 81st Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, California.
