Alvarez headed to College Hall of Fame

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez, the winningest football coach in Badger football history, will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. 

Alvarez won 118 games in his 16 years on the Badger sidelines, including three Big Ten titles and three Rose Bowl Championships.  Alvarez said he’s truly honored.

Alvarez is the 9th Badger to be elected to the College Football Hall of Fame and the first since Pat Richter joined the Hall in 1996.

Don’t ask, don’t tell gets more than dialogue

A US Senate panel has voted to repeal don’t ask, don’t tell. Also on Thursday the House backed an amendment to a defense bill that would also reverse the 17-year-old policy which bars gays from serving openly in the military. Katie Belanger, Executive Director of Fair Wisconsin, says DADT does not allow “patriotic gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender service people serve their country.”

A busy weekend for travel

It could get a little crowded on Wisconsin roadways this weekend.

An estimated 665,000 Wisconsinites are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home this weekend, according to AAA. Auto club spokesman Nick Jarmusz says that’s up about 7.8-percent from last year and higher than what’s expected in other parts of the country. [Read more...]
