Packers CEO is confident the NFL will avoid work stoppage

Green Bay Packers President & CEO, Mark Murphy, remains optimistic that the NFL owners and the NFL Players Association will reach agreement on a new labor deal.

At a conference at St. Norbert College yesterday, Murphy said he sees no chance of a strike.

The two sides are scheduled to meet next month.  The current deal expires after the upcoming season, with this being an uncapped year. [Read more...]

Brewers have no answer for Oswalt

Pitching for the first time since asking for a trade, Houston’s Roy Oswalt allowed just 4 hits in 8-innings, helping to blank the Milwaukee Brewers 5-0 at Miller Park.

Oswalt hasn’t had much run support to work with, but he got some runs last night and made them stand.  Oswalt walked just 1 and struck out 9 Brewers.  Brewers manager Ken Macha said they had one chance to get to Oswalt, in the 4th inning and couldn’t pull it off.

The Brewers have now dropped 12 of their last 15 games and have gone 5-15 at Miller Park this season.

The five runs for the Astros represented the most support this season for Oswalt.  He entered the game with a 2-6 record, but his ERA was a solid 2.66.  In his six losses, the Astros scored a total of six runs, including just one run in the last three.

Chris Narveson took the loss for the Brewers, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits in 4 innings.  He’s 4-2.  The rubber game of the series is this afternoon at Miller Park.

Zaun’s injury could be career threatening

Milwaukee Brewer catcher Gregg Zaun’s career could be in jeopardy.  An MRI on his right shoulder shows an anterior tear of the labrum.  Zaun faces surgery if he wants to play beyond this season and will undergo a therapy program to see if he can play again this season.

If Zaun has surgery, the recovery time is 4 to 6 months.

Without Zaun, the Brewers will go with George Kottaras and rookie Jonathan Lucroy will serve as his backup.  The Brewers could also look to make a deal to add some help.

Northern lakes quite accessible to anglers (AUDIO)

What’s in a word? Well, if the word is “inaccessible” and it’s used in media reports about Wisconsin lakes just before Memorial Day weekend, quite a lot. Dave Neuswanger, DNR Fisheries Supervisor for a six county area in northwestern Wisconsin, says the popular Chippewa Flowage is down about a foot and a half. “Not as low as it has been at times past. It was lower than that last August . . . when it was still quite usable,” said Neuswanger. “The Turtle Flambeau Flowage is down a little bit more than that, but again still quite accessible. We’ve always advised people to be careful on those lakes, and we’re advising that they be particularly careful now with the water down. But anybody who has fished these lakes midsummer the past couple of years has fished them at even lower levels than they’re at currently.” [Read more...]

Reigning in the cost of prescription drugs

A national advocacy group is raising concerns about the relationship between doctors and pharmaceutical companies in Wisconsin.

Pens and notepads with pharmaceutical company logos on them can be a common sight in doctors’ offices. Peter Wyckoff of Community Catalyst says they may seem harmless, but they could actually be increasing the cost of prescription drugs. [Read more...]
