Former Milwaukee Brewers manager Ned Yost was named Thursday to take over for Trey Hillman, who was fired by the Kansas City Royals on Thursday.
Hillman was fired in his 3rd season after compiling a 151-207 record. The Royals currently reside in last place in the American League Central, 10 1/2 games behind 1st place Minnesota. The Royals are off to a 12-23 record this season.
Yost was fired by the Milwaukee Brewers with 12-games left in the 2008 season. The team was struggling (3-11 to start September) but made the playoffs after Yost was fired. The Brewers then went 7-5 under interim manager Dale Sveum to win the NL wildcard.
After spending 2009 out of baseball and collecting his paychecks from the Brewers, Yost was hired this year by the Royals as a special adviser to the baseball operations department.
Yost’s record as Brewers manager was 457-502.
