Gallardo helps Brewers end losing skid

When the Milwaukee Brewers need a stopper, they go to Yovani Gallardo and he’s usually the cure for whatever is ailing the team, usually a losing streak.

Gallardo worked 7-strong innings and helped his own cause with a game tying home run and the Brewers went on to beat the Florida Marlins 7-4 in Miami.  Gallardo improved to 6-2 with a 2.64 ERA and the Brewers saw their 3-game losing streak come to an end.  Since starting the season 0-2, Gallardo is 6-0 with a 1.93 ERA over the last 10 outings.

Prince Fielder also clubbed his 9th home run of the season and the 2nd in as many games.  The Brewers try to salvage a split of the 4-game series tonight.

Sexual assaults remain under reported

The number of sexual assaults reported in Wisconsin dipped slightly last year. But Tami Jackson with the state Office of Justice Assistance says we shouldn’t read too much into that slight decrease. “With sexual assaults, the declining trend of reported crimes to law enforcement does not necessarily indicate a decline in the actual number of sexual assaults committed,” said Jackson. While data from  OJA shows a slight decrease in the number of sexual assaults reported to law enforcement in 2009, victim service providers have been experiencing an increase in the number of sexual assault service requests. Sheriff responds to local immigration measure

Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney has heard the request from the Madison City Council. But he’s continuing on with the practice of notifying immigration officials when it comes to undocumented inmates at the jail. “I just don’t think that I can back off on a necessary tool to ensure safety in our jail.  It’s imperative to our safety, to the housing and classification of inmates.  We can’t have known gang members sitting in the same cell with each other,” says Mahoney.
