Two Packer starters underwent offseason surgery

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy revealed for the first time during a news conference today that two key members of the Packers football team had offseason procedures to clean up some knee problems.

McCarthy said at a news conference during OTA’s today that wide receiver Donald Driver and linebacker Nick Barnett were both being held back after undergoing scopes after the conclusion of last season.

Underwood apologizes to his teammates

Green Bay Packers second year defensive back Brandon Underwood apologized to his teammates during a team meeting today for the alleged Lake Delton incident and the fact that several of them got dragged into the ordeal.

A number of players were in Wisconsin Dells for Clay Matthews charity golf outing.  Underwood was accused by two women of sexual assault, but no charges have been filed. 

Underwood spoke with reporters very briefly this afternoon and said, “At this time, I’m not going to be able to make any statements involving the situation.  It’s a legal matter.  I understand that you guys all have a job to do.  It’s just at this current time, I’m not going to be able to make any statements or answer any questions.  And I just want to apologize to my teammates for dragging them into this and I’m sorry that it’s been a distraction for the team.” [Read more...]

Edward Edwards pleads guilty

A transfer hearing turned into a plea agreement and an extradition hearing to Ohio on Wednesday for Edward W. Edwards.

Edwards entered two individual “guilty” plea agreements for the aggravated murders of Kelly Drew and Timothy Hack on Wednesday afternoon during a hearing in the Jefferson County Courthouse. Formally speaking, he pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree intentional homicide. [Read more...]

Surveys reveal cautious optimism for jobs growth (AUDIO)

There’s more evidence the state’s economy may be on the mend. Wisconsin ‘s largest employers are cautiously optimistic about job creation next year, and smaller companies are even more confident about job prospects, according to Jim Haney, President and CEO of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce. “No one is expecting a sharp ‘v’ rebound from this recession, everybody’s talking in terms of a big ‘u’, meaning a long, slow progression out of the depths of last year,” said Haney. Feingold calls for reigning in big oil

Senator Russ Feingold says it’s time to get tough with oil companies – and federal regulators. The Wisconsin Democrat made the comments during his opening statements, as the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on The Risky Business of Big Oil. “One way to deter wrongdoing and encourage the kind of responsible, careful drilling we need is to increase the unrealistically low liability caps for damages caused by oil spills,” said Feingold, who is cosponsoring legislation from New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez which would to that.
