Racine’s Dickert sees regional transit needs

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is meeting in Oklahoma City, and Racine Mayor John Dickert says the mayors are “fighting tooth and nail” for regional transit. “So the fact that we missed another opportunity makes me nervous, because if all these other mayors around the country are fighting for the opportunity for regional transportation, then I hope we’re not missing the boat on something.” [Read more...]

‘Car czar’ makes Janesville stop

Janesville is ground zero for economic recovery in southern Wisconsin if a visit by a cadre of Obama administration officials is any indication. White House Director of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers, Ed Montgomery, said Friday that the group is tasked to help link local and federal efforts for recovery. “The president asked us to make sure that we get out of Washington, that we recognize that what’s going on in Janesville is different than what’s going on in Detroit, Michigan or in Spring Hill, Tennessee or other areas around the country, so that we hear your particular problems, your particular concerns,” Montgomery said during a press conference at the Rock County Job Center. Badgers release 2010-11 non-conference hoops schedule

The Wisconsin men’s basketball team has announced its non-conference schedule for the upcoming Badger basketball season.  The Badgers will play seven non-conference games at the Kohl Center and could play as many as five road/neutral games vs. 2010 NCAA Tournament teams.

The Badgers will welcome UW-La Crosse (Nov. 6) and Minnesota State

New effort targets speeders

Law enforcement agencies throughout Wisconsin are joining forces to crack down on speeders. Major Dan Lonsdorf with the State Patrol says a major corridor grant project will focus on speed and aggressive driving, mainly across the I-90/94 corridor and on Highway 41 from north of Milwaukee to Green Bay. “We’re going to have our certain number of core officers that are always working these main roads, but we’re going to ad a lot more officers,” said Lonsdorf. “We’re going to throw in a third element, which is kind of unique to this effort. We’re going to have a State Patrol aircraft to work some of these details.”

Suppan returning to St. Louis

It didn’t take Jeff Suppan long to find a new home.  The Milwaukee Brewers released Suppan on Monday and he agreed to a new deal with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Suppan pitched three seasons in St. Louis before signing a 4-year, $42-million free-agent deal with the Brewers in 2006.  When the Brewers released Suppan, they still owed him the $10-million remaining on his contract.  [Read more...]
