Jeffress starts road back with Timber Rattlers

Former Milwaukee Brewers top draft pick Jeremy Jeffress last pitched in a game on June 22nd of 2009.  Jeffress is coming off of a 100-game suspension for violating the Minor League Drug Treatment and Prevention program a second time.

Jeffress threw 17 pitches and topped out his fastball at 96 miles per hour.  He allowed no hits, no walks and struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.  The scoreless frame came in the 8th and preserved a 7-7 tie at the time.

The Timber Rattlers say they’ll take things slow with Jeffress, sitting him for a couple of days before having him pitch again.

The Timber Rattlers lost the game 8-7 to Dayton.

Brewers sign 24 from 2010 MLB Draft

The Milwaukee Brewers already have 24 players from the 2010 draft under contract.  Among those players to sign are Charleston Southern right hander Tyler Thornburg (round 3), Michigan right-hander Matt Miller (round 5) and Tennessee first baseman Cody Hawn (round 6).

The Brewers also signed Limestone College (S.C.) left-hander Marques Kyles (round 48), the son of Brewers bullpen coach Stan Kyles.

Brewers offense sputters in 7-2 loss to Rangers

Too much Colby Lewis turned out to be a bad thing for the Milwaukee Brewers.  Lewis tossed 8-innings of 3-hit ball, striking out 10 and walking only 1.  He also helped his own cause with a 2-out, bases loaded, 2-run single to extend the Rangers to a 4-1 lead and opened things up for a Texas win.

Lewis’ only mistakes were a pair of solo home runs to Prince Fielder.  Everybody else, he held in check to improve 6-4.

Yovani Gallardo (6-3) took the loss, his first since April 10th.  Josh Hamilton homered for the AL West-leading Rangers, who won for the 5th time in the last six games.

The Brewers dropped 2 of 3 in the series and finished the home stand with a 3-3 mark.
