WIAA Division 1 Quarterfinals

Rain has played havoc on day 1 of the WIAA State Baseball Championships, but the Division 1 quarterfinal games have finally been completed.

Waterford (15-11) 13, Hartford Union (9-16-1) 5
Madison La Follette (18-9) 12, Fort Atkinson (8-22) 0

The Division 1 semifinals are underway yet tonight.

Efforts underway to map broadband access

The state Public Service Commission wants to make it easier for residents in rural areas to access broadband services.

Using federal funding, the PSC has been working to develop a database of what broadband options are available across Wisconsin. [Read more...]

Fitchburg teen is homicide victim

A Fitchburg teen is the victim of a homicide. Police have identified the body found Monday morning behind the Fitchburg Ridge Shopping Center as 16-year-old Lorenzo James McCittrick. While they’re not saying how the teen died, Fitchburg Police Department Chief Deputy Donald Bates was able to state that McCittrick did not appear to have been shot. [Read more...]

Deputy accused of child abuse

A Rock County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested for allegedly abusing a child. Neil Bennett of Milton faces a charge of physical abuse of a child. The alleged incident happened at his home, and involves a 4 year old girl from Beloit. Rock County Chief Deputy Barbara Tillman said the 27 year-old deputy has been placed on administrative leave – and is relatively new to the force. ” He just graduated from the police academy in May of this year, and had been out in the field training program, riding with a training officer,” said Tillman. Kenosha County manhunt underway

A traffic stop in Kenosha County has lead to a manhunt, after a motorist pointed a gun at an officer. The driver of a van exited and pointed a gun at a Town of Wheatland Constable, who fired at least once, prompting the suspect to take off into a wooded area nearby. The tactical response that followed has involved personnel from neighboring agencies, dogs and a helicopter with infrared capability. The man is still believed to be armed and dangerous. Reverse 911 calls to residents of the area warn them of police activity & to be careful.
