Jackson County Public Health Officials along with the Sheriff’s Department removed 17 sick and neglected cats from a Town of Northfield home. According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, the home was declared unlivable after inspections revealed a filthy house of animal feces. Chief Deputy Mark Moen says a search warrant turned up much more. “Through their search, they actually located…in the garage…a freezer that was not working at the time. When they looked into the freezer they found several dead cat carcasses. We secured them as evidence. And after counting them, there was over a 100 cat carcasses.” Gabriella Bernabei and Robert Grassi were referred to the District Attorney’s Office for mistreating animals and not meeting the cat’s sanitation standards.

La Crosse Democrat Ron Kind is a member of the House Environment and Natural Resources committee, which grilled BP executives earlier this week. Kind disagrees with Republican politicians who say Obama has not acted promptly on the oil spill. “He’s up against expectations,” said Kind. “All the criticism he’s come under, there wasn’t a whole lot this administration could do to plug this gusher. The federal government does just not have this type of technical expertise. That’s why we’ve got rely on the industry that’s involved in the drilling.
