A GOP candidate for governor says Wisconsin’s K-12 system needs serious reforms.
Gubernatorial candidate Mark Neumann says, the future of our state depends on staying competitive globally. “Twenty-first century jobs require a 21st century education.”
Neumann unveils a comprehensive plan that he expects to begin implementing within his first 60 days in the governor’s office. An aging con man has added two more life sentences to his collection. Edward Edwards was sentenced in Jefferson County Monday for murdering a young Wisconsin couple in 1980. Family members of Tim Hack and Kelly Drew cried as relatives talked about the pain and loss they have felt since the killing. “May you rot in hell,” Drew’s brother said to Edwards.
The convicted murderer had nothing to say in the courtroom. The 77-year-old will serve behind bars in Ohio where he’s already been sentenced to life in prison for two murders he committed in that state. In an interview with media, Edwards has since confessed to killing his foster son, totaling five murder victims in two decades.
The Jefferson County prosecutor had asked for the two life sentences, citing Edwards’ threat to public safety and the fact he has never showed remorse for the crimes.
Storms ripped through southern Wisconsin last night wrecking several homes their path. State emergency management officials report in the Waukesha County Town of Eagle at least six homes were destroyed from tornado activity and village officials say the tornado alarms did not go off before the twister struck. One of the homes belonged to Eagle’s fire chief, according the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The Green Bay Packers hit the practice field on Monday for day 1 of their final offseason minicamp. Head Coach Mike McCarthy says that he expects all of the Packers who are recovering from injury to be ready to go by the start of training camp except one.
McCarthy says that Al Harris is working hard to rehab his injured knee but he doesn’t expect him to be ready to go when players report on July 30th. McCarthy says that Harris will be given as much time as he needs to recover from his injury.
McCarthy also said that he doesn’t take it personal that safety Atari Bigby is holding out and refusing to sign his restricted free agent tender. He says that players need to do what’s best for their family and its part of the business.
With Bigby out, rookie Morgan Burnett has been able to workout with the first team and has been solid.
The Packers have a workout set for Tuesday and Wednesday before stepping away from the practice field until Training Camp opens up on Friday, July 30th.
