Chris Capuano will make his first start for the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday since September of 2007. Capuano had a second Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery in May 2008 and has been on the mend every since.
Capuano made 7-starts in the minors, between Class A and Class AAA. He was 3-1 with a 1.59 ERA, with four walks and 33 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings.
Capuano will take Manny Parra’s spot in the starting rotation. He had his contract purchased by the Brewers on Friday night.
Some wondered if the Brewers would allow Capuano to become a free agent or not. In my opinion, this was a no-brainer. If the Brewers weren’t interested in seeing Capuano return to their rotation, they wouldn’t have spent all the time and energy in helping him return. It’s been a long climb for Capuano, and the Brewers were right there with him. Now it’s time to see if all of that effort will pay dividends.
