Obama to talk in Racine

The President has a town hall meeting in Racine.

President Barack Obama plans to talk about the economy, in a city hit hard by the recession. Racine has Wisconsin’s second-highest unemployment rate at 14.2-percent.

State Republican Party chairman Reince Priebus says maybe Obama will talk about manufacturing jobs — or lack thereof. “Wisconsin is going to have an earful for President Obama, because Wisconsin has lost over 73,000 jobs since the failed stimulus plan was enacted.” [Read more...]

Douglas-Roberts excited about his new home

Newly acquired Bucks guard Chris Douglas-Roberts checked out his new home, taking a physical and meeting the media in Milwaukee on Tuesday.

The Bucks sent a 2012 second round draft pick to the New Jersey Nets for the 6’7 shooting guard last week.  Douglas-Roberts said he’s excited about a fresh start with the Bucks and is looking forward to playing for coach Scott Skiles.

Douglas-Roberts averaged 9.8 points in 67 games for the Nets last season, but saw his playing time diminish when coach Lawrence Frank was fired and replaced by Kiki Vandeweghe. 

Douglas-Roberts is also excited about the prospects of playing with point guard Brandon Jennings.  He said he will not be a part of the Bucks’ summer league team in Las Vegas next month, but will be in Milwaukee working out and learning from the coaching staff.

Salmons opts out of deal

Milwaukee Bucks forward John Salmons opted out of the final year of his contract on Tuesday, a move the Bucks had expected since the season ended.

The move means Salmons will be an unrestricted free agent tomorrow (Thursday) when NBA teams are allowed to begin contract discussions with free agents. 

The Bucks say they remain very interested in re-signing the 6’6 shooting guard to a multi-year deal, after he averaged 19.9 points a game and was a key ingredient to the Bucks march to the playoffs.

Supreme Court rejects gay marriage ban challenge (AUDIO)

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has rejected a challenge to the state’s constitutional amendment banning same sex unions. Dick Wheeler, veteran Capitol reporter and Editor and President of The Wheeler Report, explained the court’s decision. “They concluded, as the Dane County circuit court did, that the marriage amendment and the ban on civil unions or similar language, was sufficiently closely related that it was a single amendment, not to be confused with submitting two separate constitutional changes,” said Wheeler. Walker campaign wants Obama’s attention

A candidate for governor wants President Obama to reverse the decision of a federal agency which could cost Wisconsin jobs. Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker says radical environmental policies advocated by the Obama administration have led the Export/Import bank to deny loan guarantees for a coal-fired power plant that was to be built with coal mining equipment from Bucyrus, headquartered in South Milwaukee.
