This will be the Madison Democrat’s first trip to Afghanistan to get a firsthand look at the military and political situation in that region. “This is a fact-finding trip, which will provide me with opportunities to visit with the troops, including Wisconsin troops.”

Baby born at fire station

Frantic moments Thursday evening ended with the birth of a baby boy at a fire station on Madison’s east side. A young couple realized they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time, so they called 911. Dispatcher Mike Chamberlain directed them to the fire station as the woman, a first-time mom, was already in labor. And then in just a couple minutes, another call to dispatch, as Fire Station Number Five confirmed the baby’s arrival at 5:45 p.m.

Goodell said an 18-game regular season would have to be negotiated in a new collective bargaining agreement and couldn’t likely begin until the 2012 season.
