‘Click It or Ticket’ numbers way up

More than 16,000 tickets were issued to unbuckled drivers and passengers during the annual statewide Click It or Ticket mobilization.

That according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, which reports 248 citations for child passenger safety seat violations were also issued during the effort, May 24 to June 6. Last year during the Click It or Ticket mobilization, officers wrote 7,582 safety belt tickets and another 228 tickets for child passenger safety seat violations. [Read more...]

Ethics complaint against Gableman dropped

The Wisconsin Judicial Commission is dismissing an ethics complaint against state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman, after members of the Supreme Court recently split on whether he violated the Judicial Code of Ethics with a 2008 campaign ad in a 3-3 decision.

In a statement released Thursday, the Executive Director of the Commission said the lack of a conclusive resolution from the Supreme Court makes it difficult to move ahead. Wisconsin gets its 16th tornado of the year

Authorities say a tornado touched down in the south central part of the state. Wisconsin Emergency Management spokesperson Lori Getter says responders were occupied throughout the state with probable tornado activity damaging farm buildings near Cambria in Columbia County, to street flooding from Green Bay to Kenosha. There were no reports of injuries.

Spotlight on parents in babysitter abuse case

It’s possible that parents of a toddler abused by her 10-year-old babysitter may be charged, according to authorities in Beloit. The 23-month-old’s mother took her to the hospital last Friday, saying the child fell out of a crib. Police say an evaluation showed the child had been injured over a period of time.  She’s expected to recover, but may suffer from developmental problems due to multiple brain injuries.

Huffington Post buys Pollster.com

Charles Franklin is the co-developer of Pollster.com, a website that provides expert nonpartisan analysis of polling data for political insiders as well as the general public. “This move gives us a place in the Huffington Post that attracts very large traffic and audience and also will provide us an opportunity to expand the depth of the coverage and especially the technology behind it.”

The political science professor at U-W Madison notes that the online aggregator of polling data has been around since 2006. This purchase by the popular Huffington Post comes just in time for the midterm elections in November. [Read more...]
