The hot, rainy weather is bringing out the “biters.” Entomologist Edward Blumenthal says mosquitoes lay eggs in some cases a year prior. Because their larvae develop in water, the heavy rains will allow the eggs to hatch and the insects will appear a week or so later.
Neumann wants to undo smoking ban
Wisconsin’s workplace smoking ban is barely a week old…but it wouldn’t last much longer if a Republican candidate for governor has his way. Former Congressman Mark Neumann says the smoking ban is a case of “government overstepping where they should be” and he’ll to repeal the measure if he’s elected governor.
Neumann says he’s not a fan of smoke-filled rooms, so the ban is desirable to him, but that doesn’t make it acceptable. He says business owners and citizens should be able to make their own decisions. For the people who get sick around cigarette smoke, Neumann says they should just find another place to go. Walker wants to cut 4,000 state jobs
Scott Walker touts his plan: Smaller Government is Better Government.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker says, if elected, he would permanently eliminate 4,000 state jobs in his first budget, effective immediately. Right now, about 4,000 positions are already temporarily vacant.
Walker says, “If we can live this long without 4,000 state employees we can live without them forever. The only exceptions to that are the public safety positions I mentioned.” That includes state patrol officers, public defenders, corrections officers and district attorneys. [Read more...]
Giants Sweep Brewers (AUDIO)
The San Francisco Giants completed the four game sweep of the Brewers with a 9-3 win over Milwaukee on Thursday afternoon.
The Giants jumped on Manny Parra early and opened up a 6-0 lead and Milwaukee could never get into the game. The Brewers had plenty of chances but couldn’t get the clutch hit on Thursday or during the series going just 3×42 with runners in scoring position during the four game stretch.
Milwaukee will try and bounce back tonight as they open up a three game series with Pittsburgh at Miller Park. Doug Davis returns from the DL to get the start. The Pirates will counter with Paul Maholm.
They will throw the first pitch at 7:10pm tonight at Miller Park.
Are the Packers Rodgers Team? (Audio)
The Green Bay Packers are called Super Bowl favorites in the NFC by many preseason pickers. After a strong finish to 2010 and quarterback Aaron Rodgers having another year under his belt, the Packers offense may be one of the best in the league.
With stars like Donald Driver, Nick Barnett, Nick Collins and Charles Woodson on the roster there is plenty talent on the roster in 2010, but with quarterback Aaron Rodgers making the Pro Bowl and having a spectacular season in 2009 is he now the face of the Packers? Rodgers stayed away from saying the Packers are “his team” like it was called “Brett Favre’s Team.”
Rodgers prefers to have the Packers success shared equally among his teammates, but his name is most likely the first to come up when the team is mentioned nationally.
Players report to training camp on July 30th.
