Abused pooch at center of legal tussle

A legal battle over a beloved mutt. The pointer mix dog is named Emmi, and she was among 187 animals rescued from an Adams County residence. Steven Smith of Middleton decided to give Emmi foster care. “She was extremely depressed. She was malnourished. She was recovering from several infections. Just really bad shape,” Smith told WIBA. Gulf spill has scammers gushing with phony jobs

State officials says be on the lookout for job scams involving doing work in Gulf of Mexico. Bureau of Consumer Protection Spokesperson Brock Bergey says the flim-flam man may even be using legit looking contact information listing BP or groups associated with Gulf activity.

Packers sign rookie tight end

The Green Bay Packers have signed rookie 5th round draft pick Andrew Quarless to his first professional contract.

The tight end out of Penn State started 29 games for the Nittany Lions, finishing his career as the school’s all-time leader in receptions by a tight end(87) and second in receiving yards by a tight end (1,146).

Quarless becomes the fourth of seven Packers draft picks to sign with the team.

Bucks drop Summer League opener

The Milwaukee Bucks opened 2010 Summer League play with a 73-72 overtime loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Las Vegas on Monday night.  Dallas converted on a lob play with 0.7 seconds left in overtime to steal the win.

Darnell Jackson led all scorers with 17 points while adding seven rebounds.

A tough debut for first round pick Larry Sanders.  He scored 9 points on 4 of 15 shooting from the field.  Sanders also pulled down 7 rebounds and blocked 3 shots.

The Bucks face the Memphis Grizzlies tonight.

Immigration not a major issue in Wisconsin politics this fall

A political scientist says the Obama administration’s decision to sue Arizona over immigration policy isn’t likely to make Democratic politicians very happy, but the issue is unlikely to be a major consideration as voters in Wisconsin go to the polls this fall. “Immigration is down the list in terms of voter priorities here,” says UW Madison professor Barry Burden. “At the top of the list are more immediate bread and butter kinds of issues.
