Butch undergoes surgery on knee

undergone surgery to fix a ruptured left patella tendon.  Butch injured his knee in a summer league game against the Lakers on Saturday.

Butch was leading the team in blocked shots before the injury, averaging 1.5 blocks a game.  He was signed by Denver in April.  A timetable for his return to the court is unknown.

Burnett closing in on deal with Packers

Green Bay Packers third round draft pick Morgan Burnett is close to a deal with the Packers. 

Burnett’s agent told the Green Bay Press Gazette that the two parties are in the final stages of settling on a signing bonus and the structure of the contract.  A deal could be in place by the end of the week.

Burnett lined up at safety with the #1 defense during the off-season and could make a strong push for that job in training camp.

The Packers currently have four of their 7 draft picks in the fold.

Doyle won’t sign on to legal brief for AZ

Wisconsin’s governor is not getting involved in the Arizona lawsuit.

As the federal government sues Arizona against its new immigration law, some folks are stepping up to defend it — but not Wisconsin. Attorney General JB Van Hollen has asked Governor Jim Doyle’s permission to sign on to a legal brief in support of Arizona, but Doyle has denied that request. Doyle Spokesperson Adam Collins explains. “Because it’s very obviously a political stunt.” He says, “The suit would just be really a waste of taxpayer dollars.” [Read more...]

Bucks expect to lose Ridnour

The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to lose their backup point guard.  Luke Ridnour is close to a free agent deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, said to be worth a reported $16-million over 4-years. 

Ridnour averaged 10-points a game for the Bucks last season.

That leaves the Bucks looking for a replacement, behind starter Brandon Jennings.  Former Marquette point guard Travis Diener (Fond du Lac native) is available and could be a possibility for the Bucks.

Tough night for Brewer all-stars

The National League’s long All-Star game losing skid is over.  Brian McCann’s three-run bases loaded double in the 7th inning gave the NL the 3-1 win over the American League in the Major League Baseball All-Star game.

McCann connected off of White Sox pitcher Matt Thornton to help end the NL’s 13-year win-less streak.  The last National League win came back in 1996.  The win also gives the National League home field advantage in the upcoming World Series. [Read more...]
