Wisconsin joins Asian carp lawsuit

Wisconsin’s Attorney General is joining another legal battle to help keep Asian carp out of the Great Lakes.

Wisconsin is among five Great Lakes states that filed a lawsuit in US District Court Monday, which seeks to force the Army Corps of Engineers to block the movement of Asian carp through the Chicago Area Waterway System. [Read more...]

Jobless hope for extension of benefits

As the US Senate ponders whether to extend unemployment benefits, jobless Wisconsinites wait anxiously.

State Labor Secretary Roberta Gassman is disappointed with the delays in Washington, and is eagerly awaiting another extension of the unemployment insurance benefits. “These benefits provide a lifeline for people who are out of work, and not only do people then get some stability to pay their basic bills and take care of themselves, that brings more security to their families, they are able to buy things in their communities so the dollars actually get re-circulated, and they help our businesses and that helps our economy.” [Read more...]

Whistling Straits is next

As South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen hoisted the Claret Jug after his 2010 British Open victory, it became time to focus on the next major.  The 92nd PGA Championship at Whistling Straits is 3-weeks away.

Each day brings a new project to get the course and area ready for the best in the world who will hit the course starting Monday, August 9th for the first day of practice rounds.  Manager of Operations with the 2010 PGA Championship Chris Vonderkall says everything is right on schedule:

Brewers split with Braves

The Milwaukee Brewers (42-51) had an opportunity to take a 4-game series from best home team in Baseball, but the Atlanta Braves (54-38) stopped the Crew Sunday 11-6.  The Braves still are baseball’s best home team at 32-12 on the season.  The teams split the series 2-2.

It was not a good day for Manny Parra.  The Brewers starter served-up a career high 10-earned runs on 10-hits in 5 1/3 innings of work.  He is now 3-7 on the year.  Parra talks about his performance:

Bucks finish Summer League with a Win

The Milwaukee Bucks (1-4) avoided going win-less in their 5-game summer league session in Vegas as they took care of Cleveland Sunday 80-66.  Larry Sanders and Deron Washington each had 17-points to lead the Bucks.

Sanders, Milwaukee’s 2010 1st round pick, led the team in scoring (14.0), rebounding (8.3), and blocked shots (3.2) for the 5-games.  Washington was second in scoring at 13.2 points per game. 

A couple of players with state ties saw some action in Vegas.  Former Wauwautosa East star Jerry Smith scored 5-points in 3-games while former Marquette Guard Dominc James played in just one game scoring 2-points.  Neither is expected to make the regular season roster.  The 2010-2011 NBA Schedule is due out in the next couple of weeks.
