Wet July in Appleton

There are still 11 days left in the month, but Appleton has already broken the record for July rainfall. National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Sklwronski said nearly 10 inches has fallen in the city as of Monday. The previous record was 8.2 inches in 1994. Sklwronski said the average rain total for July is only around 3.4 four inches, but already this month says many localities are well above that. “Most locations in east central Wisconsin have had anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of rain from June into July,” said Sklwronski. “We started to get into a wet pattern at the start of June and . . . it’s pretty much continued straight into July.” Last week alone, Appleton received about 6.8 inches of rain. Sklwronski says the record will get pushed higher before the end of the month, with thunderstorms in the forecast this week.

It’s not an official warning. What’s input on there … it’s inactionable.”

Boffeli says state health officials understand that there could be some false complaints coming into the compliance hotline from disgruntled ex-employees or patrons. [Read more...]
