Boy drowns in Lake Michigan

Lake Michigan and Southeast Wisconsin’s inland waterways are among some of the great summertime ventures, but the importance of safety continues to grab attention. A 12-year old boy was pulled from the lake just outside the swim area at Racine’s popular North Beach Sunday night by the sheriff’s Water Patrol, but life saving efforts proved futile.

Weather woes in south central Wisconsin

It was Grant County’s unlucky turn to get a deluge of rain this weekend. A resident near Potosi and his wife had to scramble Saturday morning to try and salvage items from their home. “Makes a mess out of everything. When you see all the damage, it takes time to get it all cleaned up and it’s a lot of money,” Larry Ames told WMTV. At one point the water got to chest level.

Children’s Museum tickled pink about being green

The Madison Children’s Museum is preparing to open at its new location on the Capitol Square. Its executive director Ruth Shelly says the museum has always emphasized sustainability in many different ways. “The terms recycled, repurposed, reclaimed, restored all have different meanings for different people.”

For example, Shelly says, folks at the award-winning museum are giving old building materials new life at the new facility. “And one of our best examples is using bleachers from Oak Creek High School which was decommissioned in South Milwaukee. Brewers sweep Nationals

Casey McGehee and Rickie Weeks homered and the Milwaukee Brewers scored five unearned runs off of Washington starter Ross Detwiler in beating the Nationals 8-3 at Miller Park, completing a 3-game sweep.

The win moved the Brewers to within 6-games of the .500 mark (47-53), the closest they’ve been to that mark since the middle of May.  It makes their series with the Cincinnati Reds starting tonight one of utmost importance. [Read more...]
