Ailing Edmonds plays hero in Brewers win

games for the Brewers, but Edmonds still played hero in Milwaukee’s 3-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the series opener.

With the score tied 2-2 with 2-outs in the 8th, Edmonds sent a 1-2 pitch from Bronson Arroyo deep but foul, just outside the foul poll in right field.  Arroyo came back with another fast ball and Edmonds promptly sent it deep into the right-center field seats to give the Brewers the win.  For Edmonds, it was just his second career home run off of Arroyo. Man disappears in Lake Michigan

The search resumes today for a 19-year-old Milwaukee man who disappeared late Monday while swimming with friends near Sheboygan. The Coast Guard said the man was swept out by a strong under-tow in Lake Michigan. He and two other teens were swimming about 75-to-100-feet off the shore of a beach, when he started being pulled farther away. It happened near Alliant Energy’s Edgewater Power Plant in Sheboygan.

And then there was one! Packers sign DT Neal

The Green Bay Packers announced the signing today of DE Mike Neal, their 2nd round draft pick out of Purdue. 

Neal was a four-year letter-winner with the Boilermakers.  He appeared in 46 career games, including 23 starts, and finished his career with 99 tackles
(56 solo), including 26 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks.  He earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors from the media as a senior.

Neal becomes the sixth of seven Packers draft picks to sign with the team.  Only first round pick Brian Bulaga remains unsigned prior to the start of training camp on Saturday.

Johnson makes his pitch in Madison (VIDEO)

Ron Johnson was the focus at the Madison Club on Monday. The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate weighed in a variety of topics during a WisPolitics event in Madison, including the Bush tax cuts,which the Oshkosh businessman says ought to be extended. “The last thing we need to do in a weakened economy is raise taxes, on anybody,” said Johnson. Johnson, who’s looking to defeat Senator Russ Feingold in November, said taxes are only part of the problem, and spending is the other part. “In 2000, our total federal budget was about $1.7 trillion. Now it’s $3.5 trillion. It’s doubled in ten years. It’s a spending problem not a taxing problem, and the fact of the matter is if we increase taxes in this economy we’re going to get less tax revenue.”

Americans with Disabilities Act 20 years old

The Americans with Disablities Act marks its 20th anniversary today.  An advocate for the disabled say the law has provided greater protection and accessibility. “I think the ADA has had a huge impact. Some of its been gradual year-by-year so you don’t really notice it as one great big bang,” says Disability Rights Wisconsin Executive Director Lynn Breedlove. [Read more...]
