Girl injured on Dells ride back in Florida

A young girl critically injured on a Wisconsin Dells thrill-ride this summer is back near her home in Florida.

Just a month after she was sent to the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, 12-year-old Teagan Marti was transferred Wednesday to a hospital closer to her home in Parkland, Florida. [Read more...]

Doyle: Wisconsin schools remain strong

As students head back to class for the fall, Governor Jim Doyle says Wisconsin schools are doing a good job at providing a quality education.

The Governor visited students at a Madison elementary school Wednesday, where he also highlighted the $179 million-dollars the state is receiving under the recent federal Education Jobs Fund. Doyle says the money is making sure schools don’t suffer too much from the recession by being able to retain quality staff in the classroom. [Read more...]

Contract deal reached with Kenosha teachers

The Kenosha Unified School District will have labor peace the next three years. Human Services Director Sharonda Glass approached the teachers’ union about re-opening the current year contract because of rising health care costs, and the two sides came to a deal on that, PLUS a 2-year successor agreement, including pay increases. “Knowing what your costs are going to be over the next couple of years, as it relates to health insurance, is huge,” Glass said. What’s up with Gallardo?

The Cincinnati Reds increased their lead atop the NL Central Division by

Yovani Gallardo

knocking off the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4 on Tuesday.  The Reds took the first two games in the series after Joey Votto drove in three runs, Scott Rolen it a 2-run double and Jonny Gomes homered in the win.

Reds pitcher and Cuban defector Aroldis Chapman hit 102 miles per hour on the radar gun while throwing a perfect 8th inning.

The loss goes to Yovani Gallardo, who struggled again.  The Brewers ace allowed all 8-runs on 9 hits in five-plus innings.  The 8 runs were the most allowed by Gallardo this season.  He’s 1-2 with a 9.11 ERA over his last five starts.  Before the stretch of poor pitching, Gallardo was 9-4 with a 2.45 ERA.  He’s now 11-7 with a 3.86 ERA.

Gallardo says he feels fine physically and really doesn’t know what the problem is.

When things go bad, you can sometimes count on your ace to plug the leak and come up with a big outing.  Gallardo hasn’t been able to slam the door on anybody of late, which is a concern to the team.

Preparing for emergencies

Are you ready for an emergency?

Despite our share of flooding, tornadoes and snowstorms, only about 20-percent of Wisconsin residents are prepared for such large-scale emergencies. That’s according to a ReadyWisconsin survey conducted last year. “That, to me, is amazing because we’re in a state that does have emergencies.”

Tod Pritchard of ReadyWisconsin says officials just want to make sure state residents have what it takes to protect themselves and their families in a potential crisis. [Read more...]
