Badgers and Gophers to air on Big Ten Network

The Big Ten Network is scheduled to air Wisconsin’s Homecoming game against Border Battle-rival Minnesota on Oct. 9.  The battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe is slated for an 11am (CT) kickoff at Camp Randall Stadium.

The Badgers are looking for their 7th straight win over the Gophers in the series, the longest winning streak for either team since the Axe was introduced in 1948.  Wisconsin has previously won six in a row from 1978-83 and from 1995-2000.

Prior to the Minnesota game, the Badgers will open Big Ten play on the road at Michigan State this Saturday (Oct. 2).  That game will be show on ABC at 2:30pm (CT).

Where the Badgers stand in the Top 25 polls

The Wisconsin Badger football team remains 11th in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 College Football Poll.  Bucky moved up 1 spot from 10th to 9th in the USA Today Top 25 poll.

The Badgers open Big Ten play at Michigan State his Saturday.  The Spartans are 24th in the A.P. Poll and 21st in the USA Today/Coaches poll.

Other Big Ten teams in the A.P. Top 25 poll:  #2 Ohio State, #17 Iowa, #19 Michigan, #22 Penn State and #24 Michigan State.  In the USA Today poll, #2 Ohio State, #18 Iowa, #19 Michigan, #20 Penn State and #21 Michigan State.

Hockey Badgers ranked 13th in preseason poll

The 2010-11 USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine men’s hockey preseason rankings are out and the Wisconsin Badger men’s hockey team finds itself at No. 13.

Wisconsin is one of six WCHA teams ranked among the nation’s top 15, which is the most out of any conference.  The Badgers are one spot in front of No. 14 Boston University, who the Badgers open the season against in St. Louis on Oct. 8. [Read more...]

White named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

TenConference’s Freshman of the Week after a breakout performance in Wisconsin’s 70-3 win over Austin Peay on Saturday.

White rushed for a career-high 145 yards on 11 carries and joined Ron Dayne as the only other freshman running back in school history to score four rushing touchdowns.  White’s 13.2 yards per carry average is the fourth-highest total in UW history (min. 10 attempts).

This is the first year for the Big Ten Freshman of the week award.  White became the first Badger to receive the honor.

Bucks fill out their coaching staff with final hire

The Milwaukee Bucks have hired Anthony Goldwire to fill out their 2010-11 coaching staff. 

Goldwire served most recently as an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns’ Summer League team. 

Goldwire played 8-seasons in the NBA from 1994 to 2005, including two stints with the Bucks.  Goldwire had career NBA averages of 6.3 points, 2.8 assists and 1.3 rebounds.   He replaces Adrian Griffin, who took a coaching position with the Chicago Bulls.
