Giving teeth to tiger regulations

Wisconsin is one of only eight states that lack regulations and tracking on tigers in captivity according to a conservation group. Leigh Henry with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) says most of the 5,000 captive tigers are in the hands of private owners rather than zoos. Meanwhile only 3,200 hundred of the big cats exist in the wild, according to a recent report by the group.

Jails battling over inmates

With budgets tight, counties around the state are in the strange position of fighting over other counties’ inmates.

Badgers pull one out at Iowa

If you thought the Wisconsin Badgers win over previous #1 Ohio State was exciting last week?  This week’s 31-30 win over #13 was even more thrilling.

The Badgers stunned the Hawkeyes with a fake punt midway through the 4th quarter, and Montee Ball ran 8 yards for a touchdown with 1:06 left to play to give the 10th ranked Badgers the win in Iowa City.

Scott Tolzien threw for 205 yards and a touchdown and John Clay added a pair of TD runs as the Badgers improved to 7-1 overall, 3-1 in the Big Ten.

The fake punt came courtesy of Brad Nortman, who ran 17 yards up the middle to pick up a first down.

The win gave the Badgers the Heartland Trophy and it’ll stay in Madison until the next time the two teams hook up, not until at least 2013.
