Duffy, Lassa debate in Wausau

The 7th Congressional District candidates offered biting attacks on jobs in one of their final debates. Meeting in Wausau Tuesday night, Democrat Julie Lassa accused Republican Sean Duffy of supporting tax loopholes that ship jobs overseas. “I think that it’s absolutely crazy to ask American workers to work as hard as they do every day, and pay their taxes, just for the federal government to turn around and give their taxes dollars to a corporation who then moves their jobs to China, India, Mexico or some other country.”

But Duffy said Lassa is to blame – pointing to jobs lost under her chairmanship of the Senate economic development committee as an example. “There’s a lot of jobs in Wisconsin that are being exported to other states because the policies that Senator Lass has advocated for has made it more difficult for those companies to operate here in Wisconsin,” Duffy said. Packers add another linebacker

Within 24 hours of acquiring two other linebackers, the Packers today announced that they’ve added a third.

The Packers signed Erik Walden, a 3rd-year player out of Middle Tennessee State.

Walden was a 6th round draft pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2008 but was released on the team’s final roster cut-down that year.  Walden was then claimed by the Kansas City Chiefs, playing in 9-games before being released.

Walden was then claimed by Miami where he played in six games in that 2008 season.  He played in 11 more games for the Dolphins in 2009 and 2 games this season.

Source says Brewers working on a deal with Valentine!

According to a source inside the Milwaukee Brewers organization, the team has agreed in principle with former Mets manager Bobby Valentine to become the teams next manager.

The Brewers fired Ken Macha at the end of the season.

Now the two sides must finalize a contract agreement.  The source says Valentine is looking for $10-million over 3-years which may or may not throw a wrench into the deal.

Packers sign pair of linebackers

The Green Bay Packers have claimed linebacker Diyral Briggs off waivers from Denver and signed linebacker Matt Wilhelm.  The Packers placed DE Mike Neal and LB Brady Poppinga on injured reserve and released LB Maurice Simpkins.

Wilhelm is an 8-year pro out of Ohio State.  He has played in 82 career games with 22 starts with San Diego and San Francisco.

Briggs is a first-year player out of Bowling Green who entered the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers as a non-drafted free agent in May 2009.  He appeared in four games for the 49ers in 2009 and one this season before being released in September.  Briggs was then signed to Denver’s practice squad before being elevated to the active roster, and he appeared in one game for the Broncos.

It’s all about patient security, so says Mike Sauk, chief information officer for UW Hospital and Clinics. The new palm-vein scanning system quickly and easily identifies patients through each person’s unique blood-flow pattern in the palm of their hand. It matches that patient to his electronic health record.
