National Weather Service personnel will determine the strength of what is confirmed as a tornado in Racine County. The Villages of Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant were hit Tuesday morning with a confirmed tornado off a fast moving storm system. Power was lost at several major businesses, including the Case tractor plant, Wal-Mart and Menards and the immediate area, with power lines and trees, and even some buildings down. Racine County Emergency Management Coordinator David Maack indicated it may be a few million dollars worth of damage.
Wind storm blowing through Wisconsin
Southern Wisconsin’s storm activity is set to die down this morning according to Meteorologist Ashley Sears with the National Weather Service in Sullivan. Winds will peak this afternoon at speeds of up 60-miles-an-hour. Tonight there will be a “lull” in the winds of around 35-miles-an-hour.
Tonight there is also chance of light snow mixed with rain in northwestern areas of the state.
Doctors say Kind requested donation for meeting
Congressman Ron Kind calls it an assault on his character and the worst kind of mud-slinging. Two doctors at Oak-Leaf Surgical Hospital in Eau Claire said the La Crosse Democrat wanted campaign contributions before meeting with the hospital’s doctors three years ago. And one surgeon eventually agreed to raise $10,000. Doctor Michael Smith and an unnamed surgeon sent sworn affidavits of their claims to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel columnist Dan Bice. And he published them this morning – a week before Kind’s election contest with State Senate Republican Dan Kapanke. Kind’s staff also provided affidavits refuting the allegations. [Read more...]
7th CD candidates on term limits
The major party candidates for the 7th Congressional District met for a debate in Chippewa Falls Monday night. Republican Sean Duffy of Ashland and Democrat Julie Lassa of Stevens Point, both hoping to replace Democrat Dave Obey, who has served four decades in office, discussed the possibility of term limits.
