Bar owner shoots young burglary suspects

Two minors were shot in Sawyer County on Tuesday morning. According to the Sawyer County sheriff’s office, 2 suspects entered the Country Side Bar in the town of Bass Lake, around 5:30 a.m. The report says they had plans to steal alcohol and money. After being confronted by the bar owner shots were fired at the suspects. Both were transported to an area hospital. One suspect was shot in the ankle and the groin area. His wounds were not life threatening. The second suspect was shot in the hand and neck. His condition is listed as critical. Cheif Deputy Brigette Kornbroke says the case is still being investigated. Numerous charges will follow

Local, county, and state officials held a listening session in Fond du Lac last night to hear concerns about a growing problem on Lake Winnebago; the weeds. With improved water clarity  the weeds this past summer clogged jet skis, compromised boating, and released toxins dangerous to people and their pets.

Tips for turkey day travelers

Before you even hit the road, Tod Pritchard with Wisconsin Emergency Management suggests visiting the state Department of Transportation website for road conditions — 511wi.gov — or simply call 511.

“Their site is so great because it gives you the latest road conditions so you know what you’re getting into before you even head out on the road.” Pritchard also offers a few tips, “When you first get out on the road, use your accelerator and brake gently and kind of see how the road conditions are, clear out your frost and the snow off your windows and mirrors — that kind of common sense sort of stuff, but also flip on your head lights.” [Read more...]

Minnesota still on track with rail hearings

Minnesota is moving forward with ideas on passenger rail, regardless of Wisconsin Governor-Elect Scott Walker’s tabling of the Madison-to-Milwaukee high speed rail. Rail advocates long term plan was to extend the line to the Twin Cities. The Gopher State is holding a series of public meetings next month.

Twister hits Racine, Walworth Counties

For the second time in just under a month, Racine County is picking up the pieces from a tornado. It happened late Monday afternoon, off a storm system moving east-northeast from Illinois, with most of the damage in the central Village of Union Grove.
