Four Badgers announced as awards finalists

Wisconsin Badger running back John Clay was named one of three finalists for the Doak Walker award, given annually to the nation’s top running back.  Clay has rushed for 929 yards and 13 touchdowns in 9-games this season.

Clay missed the last few games with a sprained knee, but is expected to return for the regular season finale against Northwestern on Saturday. [Read more...]

Childress is the latest head coach fired after loss to Packers (AUDIO)

First it was Wade Phillips, fired by Dallas after a blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers.  Sunday, the Vikings were embarrassed by the Packers, 31-3 and it led to the Vikings firing Brad Childress on Monday.

Childress had just signed a contract extension through 2013, after taking the Vikings to the NFC Championship game last season. [Read more...]

Packers could be thin at safety against Falcons

The Green Bay Packers expect to be thin at safety when they face the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday in Atlanta. 

Atari Bigby and Anthony Smith were both injured in Sunday’s 31-3 win over the Minnesota Vikings.  Bigby suffered a hamstring strain and Smith suffered an ankle sprain.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that both will be hard pressed to make it back for the Atlanta game on Sunday.

Slow start sinks the Green Bay Phoenix

The Green Bay Phoenix got off to a slow start, hitting  just 20% of their shots in the first half and was blown out by IUPUI 63-46 in Oxford, Ohio on Monday night. 

The Phoenix improved in the second half (46%FG) but it was too late.  Rahmon Fletcher was the only player in double figures for Green Bay.  He hit 8 of 10 from the field, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Phoenix from dipping to 2-3 on the season.

Close, but no cigar for the Golden Eagles

Mason Plumlee scored a career-high 25 points and added 12 rebounds and 6 blocks to lead top-ranked Duke to a 82-77 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles in the semifinals of the CBE Classic on Monday night in Kansas City. 

The Golden Eagles were able to tie the game three times late, but never could take the lead. 

Jimmy Butler scored 22 points and Jae Crowder added 13 for the Golden Eagles who suffered their first loss (4-1) of the season.  The Golden Eagles will meet 22nd ranked Gonzaga in the consolation game today.
