Milwaukee County Board Chairman Lee Holloway was sworn-in Tuesday as acting county executive. And as promised, Holloway spent the previous 24-hours firing county officials who apparently showed “disrespect” to the County Board. Budget director Steven Kreklow was told Tuesday morning by the board’s chief-of-staff that his services were no longer needed. County housing director Tim Russell said he got a letter of termination from Holloway on Monday. Russell was a political ally of Scott Walker, who’s last day as county executive was Monday, as he gets ready to become Wisconsin’s governor. Walker proposes Department of Commerce split
Changes could be coming to the state Department of Commerce, under a proposal from Governor-elect Scott Walker.
Walker wants to replace the Department with an Economic Development Corporation. It would take over the job creation programs currently handled by Commerce, while the regulatory duties would either be eliminated or passed on to other state agencies. [Read more...]

Big bonus for enrolling uninsured kids
Wisconsin got the federal government’s second-biggest reward for enrolling kids who were eligible for tax funded Medicaid, and were not getting it. That was a major goal of Badger Care Plus which added 85,000 eligible youngsters in the last fiscal year. Because of that, the federal government gave state health officials a $23 million bonus Monday.
Warm weather won’t be a treat
Much of Wisconsin is headed for an early winter warm-up this week, but it’s not likely to be something to be enjoyed. “It’s definitely going to provide a variety of weather problems for folks in southern Wisconsin, and not much enjoyment of the warmth when it comes to the fog and the rain on the front end, and definitely could cause a lot of travel problems . . . on the back end, with everything freezing up,” according to Bob McMahon, senior forecaster with the National Weather Service in Sullivan.
