Return to Titletown set for Tuesday, Feb. 8

Should the Green Bay Packers beat Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV, a special “Return to Titletown” celebration will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Lambeau Field, from 4 to 5 p.m.  Stadium gates will open at 2pm.

The program is contingent on a victory.  If the Packers lose, the event will not take place.

Tickets, which will be priced at $5, will go on sale Monday, Feb. 7, at 9 a.m. through Ticketmaster outlets only (in person, over the phone at 800-745-3000, and online at Ticketmaster.com).  A limit of 20 tickets per order will be in place, and normal Ticketmaster fees will apply.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit charity through the Green Bay Packers foundation.  Parking for the event will be free.

NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award is out today

candidates for the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year Award.  It’ll be announced shortly after the Packers arrive in Dallas this afternoon. 

Matthews isn’t allowing himself to get too excited about the possibility of winning the award, which was captured by teammate Charles Woodson last year.

Matthews said this is as much an award for the rest of the defense as it is for the winner.

Matthews recorded 13.5 sacks during the regular season and another 3.5 in the playoffs for a total of 17 heading into Sunday’s Super Bowl game.

Packers depart for Dallas today!

The Green Bay Packers will leave for Dallas today and arrive there mid-afternoon.  The Packers will face the Steelers in Super Bowl 45 on Sunday.  The two teams have a combined 13 Super Bowl appearances, with Pittsburgh tied for the most of any team in the league with eight.  The Packers will be making their fifth Super Bowl appearance.  The Steelers have six Super Bowl crowns, the most of any team.

The two teams have a combined 18 championships.  Green Bay has won 12 titles, more than any other team. [Read more...]

Photo issue has a life of its own in Green Bay

Just when you thought the Team-Photo flap was done with, the controversial subject reered its ugly head again on Saturday when Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers criticized  linebacker Nick Barnett and tight end Jermichael Finley for their complaints earlier this week.

That in turn triggered another Twitter storm in response from Barnett and Finley. [Read more...]

Rules oversight set for Assembly vote

The state Assembly is scheduled to vote this week on legislation granting the governor oversight of state agencies’ rule making authority. The bill, part of Governor Scott Walker’s special session on jobs and the economy, provides the governor with more input into the process whereby state agencies develop the rules to implement new laws. It’s a wide ranging proposal, and one that has drawn criticism from Democrats in the legislature. “It’s almost like the governor becomes a dictator,” said state Representative Gary Hebl (D-Sun Prairie) during a committee hearing on the measure. “It is almost like a dictatorship where the governor has the last say on everything that is promulgated out of the rules.” Representative Tony Staskunis (D-Milwaukee), also voiced concerns over the amount of authority the governor would have. “The governor of our state is now stepping in, and he’s going to be a lawmaker. He’s going to be a super lawmaker. I just really fear that we’re giving too much lawmaking authority to the executive branch,” Stankunis said. [Read more...]
