Bucks keep slim playoff hopes going

Brandon Jennings scored 25 points and Drew Gooden added 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 104-98 win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.

Andrew Bogut also chipped in with 17 points and 10 rebounds as the Bucks kept pace with the Indiana Pacers who maintained a 1-game lead on Charlotte and a 3-game lead on the Bucks for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  The Pacers beat Detroit 111-101 and Charlotte downed Cleveland 98-97 last night.

The Bucks have 8-games left in the regular season, including a trip to Indiana for a head-to-head battle with the Pacers on Friday night.

Andrea Bargnani scored 22 points and DeMar DeRozan had 20 to lead the Raptors.

The Brewers have had a challenging spring.  They’ll start the season with five players on the disabled list, including starting catcher Jonathan Lucroy.

Reversing mandatory sick leave

Legislation at the Capitol would preempt city or county ordinances from requiring employers to provide workers with time off to deal with family, medical or health issues.

Representative Christine Sinicki (D-Milwaukee) says mandatory sick leave was passed on referendum in Milwaukee with nearly 70 percent of voters in favor. “What makes you believe that you have the right to override the vote of 69 percent of the people in Milwaukee?”

Representative Chris Kapenga (R-Delafield) is the author of the Assembly bill. “You’re going to have businesses leaving that city and that county that are there providing jobs right now because they cannot be competitive.” [Read more...]

Walker unveils budget adjustment

Governor Scott Walker has introduced legislation to achieve a balanced the budget by the end of the fiscal year, and legislative Democrats appear okay with it. “As far as I can tell, it appears like he’s really just making a straightforward effort put forward fiscal policies that actually address the budget shortfall that we have,” said Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca. “This is what we should have had all along, in my judgement.”

“Democrats were, from the beginning, willing to work with Governor Walker and the Republicans to address fiscal issues to ensure we had a balanced budget,” said Senate Minority Leader Mark Miller in a statement. “I’m glad we’ve finally reached this point. But, I remain extremely disappointed that, instead of starting out with a bill to fix fiscal issues, the Governor and legislative Republicans used a fiscal repair bill as an excuse to advance a radical overreach that divided our state, stripped workers of their rights and endangered programs that provide health insurance for children and prescription drugs for seniors.” [Read more...]
