Huebsch: Illinois companies coming to Wisconsin

A better tax climate is drawing business from Illinois to Wisconsin. That is what Department of Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch told the legislature’s Joint Finance Committee today during his testimony of the Governor Walker’s proposed budget.

Among the businesses mentioned: Rockton, IL based Fat Wallet which will bring at least 50 jobs to Beloit and Crystal Lake, IL based Catalyst Exhibits is moving to Pleasant Prarie with 105 positions.

Taylor named All-American, Leuer honorable mention

Wisconsin  junior guard Jordan Taylor was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press on Monday.  His teammate, Jon Leuer

earned honorable mention honors.

Taylor is just the fourth Badger to earn first or second team All-America Honors since the selection process began back in 1948.

Alando Tucker and Devin Harris are the two modern day players to make the list.  Don Rehfeldt also made first team All-American in 1950.

Taylor averaged 18.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists this last season.

Put a fork in the Bucks

With 9-games left in the regular season, the Milwaukee Bucks dealt themselves a major blow in their chase for a spot in the NBA’s post-season.

The Bucks missed their last 11-shots on Monday night and fell to the Charlotte Bobcats 87-86 in Charlotte.  The loss dropped the Bucks to 3-games behind Indiana for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  They’re also 2-games behind Charlotte, who is also in the mix.

Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut scored 26-points each, but the Bucks let a 9-point fourth quarter lead slip away.

The Bucks travel to Toronto to face the Raptors on Wednesday night.

Almonte’s wait is almost over (AUDIO)

Barring any last minute changes, it appears that infielder/outfielder Erick Almonte has made the Milwaukee Brewers opening day roster after coming to camp as a non-roster player.  At 33 years old, Almonte hasn’t played in the majors since 2003.  The final roster will be made known on Wednesday.

Almonte hit .320 with the Triple A Nashville Sounds last season, then followed that up by hitting .427 this spring.  Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Almonte has been very impressive.

Another non-roster player, Jeremy Reed is expected to be on the final roster when it’s announced tomorrow.  Reed hit .397 this spring with a .408 on-base percentage and 13 rbi’s.

Reliever Brandon Kintzler was told that he had won the final spot in the Brewers bullpen.

Packers DE Jolly stays behind bars

possession of a controlled substance, will remain in a Houston jail until at least Wednesday.  That’s when his postponed initial appearance is scheduled to take place.  Jolly’s request for bond was rejected by a Harris County judge on Monday.

Houston police arrested Jolly on Friday after allegedly finding 600 grams of codeine in his Cadillac Escalade. [Read more...]
