Ramon Hernandez clubbed a 3-run opposite field home run to cap off a 4-run 9th inning and give the Cincinnati Reds a 7-6 come from behind win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.
Hernandez game winning shot came off of John Axeford with the Reds down to their final out. It was his 4th hit of the day.
The Brewers jumped out to an early lead on back-to-back home runs from Rickie Weeks and Carlos Gomez in the first. Ryan Braun also clubbed a solo home run to deep center in the 5th.
The Brewers led 6-2 before Cincinnati started its comeback. But comebacks are no stranger to the Reds, who earned 22 final at bat comeback victories last season, second in the National League only to Atlanta.
Yovani Gallardo was on his way to an opening day victory, working six innings and leaving with a lead. But the bullpen couldn’t hold it and the Brewers all-time opening day record dropped to 23-19-1 and 7-6-1 as members of the National League.
The two teams take Friday off and will resume their series on Saturday night in Cincinnati.
