Cutting through the red tape

Governor Scott Walker has signed a bill into law that gives his office more control over the rules state agencies write. The measure grants the Governor veto power over agency rules, which currently only need to be approved the Legislature.

The Governor says those administrative rules are some of the strongest in the nation and essentially have the force of law behind them, but are often written and approved by unelected bureaucrats. He says that the change makes those agencies more accountable to the people. [Read more...]

GAB certifies three recalls

The state Government Accountability Board has certified the recall election for three Republican state Senators. GAB staffer David Buerger explained that while 92 signatures from the recall petitions against Senator Dan Kapanke of La Crosse were invalid, more than enough remained. “There is still more than enough signatures, and that will be true for all of the petitions we are reviewing here today,” said Buerger. The board rejected Kapanke’s legal challenge to the recall effort, and set a July 12 election. GAB also certified recalls against Senators Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac and Luther Olsen of Ripon.

Brewers beat Rockies despite just 2-hits

Warhawks getting ready for NCAA Div. 3 Tournament

The UW-Whitewater Warhawks are in the NCAA Division 3 Tournament field for the 5th time in school history.  The Warhawks (36-11) will open against Buena Vista College at 4:30pm on Friday at Fox Cities Stadium.  Buena Vista (32-16) is making its first ever appearance in the field.

Whitewater beat St. Scholastica 6-3 in the Midwest Regional Championship game on Saturday to advance to the field of 8 in the Fox Cities.
