WIAA’s Board of Control extends hockey venue deal

Brewers continue to dominate at home

The Milwaukee Brewers haven’t fared well on the road this season (8-17), but they continued to show the baseball world that they’ve got the home field thing all figured out.

Yovani Gallardo tossed 8-innings of shutout baseball, leading the Brewers to a 6-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.  It gave the Brewers 2 of 3 in the series and capped off an 8-1 home stand.  The Brewers improved to 21-7 at Miller Park this season, the best home field record in baseball. Warhawks season comes to an end

UW-Whitewater’s bid to win a second NCAA Division 3 College Baseball title came up short when the Warhawks fell to Chapman 4-2 on Sunday night at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Warhawks managed just 5-hits, got picked off base 3-times and committed 4-errors in the loss.  The Warhawks saw their season end at
37-13. 

Whitewater’s only two runs came on Jeff Donovan’s 2-run homer in the 7th.

The Warhawks were making their 5th trip to the College World Series, previously winning the title in 2005.

PTSD and women vets

Post-traumatic-stress-disorder is a problem for some returning veterans with women being affected differently than men, according to Gundel Metz, who coordinates the women’s veterans assistance program for the State of Wisconsin. 

Metz says a woman’s dynamic in the home dealing with their families can be altered upon returning from combat. She says a woman can either suppress their difficulties when assuming her role as mother or caretaker of [Read more...]

As garage sale season kicks into full gear this weekend, it’s buyer beware. Bargain hunters are already hitting neighborhoods across the state looking for deals on hidden treasures, and Michelle Reinen with the state Division of Consumer Protection urges shoppers to watch out for recalled products lurking behind the piles of old clothes and paperbacks.
